Dave Devenne

Welcome to the 2007 Mahone Bay Classic Boat Festival.

This is the eighteenth and undoubtedly the busiest festival yet! This year we welcome the Nova Scotia Boat Builders Association as a partner to present the first In-Water Boat Show. It is a unique opportunity for you to inspect the design and building skills of Nova Scotia's premiere boat builders. Check out their vessels, participate in workshops focussed on those building techniques, visit local boat yards or just talk with many of our local marine specialists. Take advantage of an invitation from one of the builders to go aboard the vessels and examine the craftsmanship up close. You won't be disappointed.

The festival is a result of the combined effort of a committee supported by dozens of volunteers, a group with one thing in common, a passion for boats. A wooden boat stirs the soul of the purist. At our festival, you will have the opportunity to see some of the finest wooden boats ever built. You will also see boats constructed of a variety of different materials; different construction materials but still built with many of the same craft techniques. Our festival welcomes all type of boat and we truly appreciate them all.

The festival would not be possible without our Corporate Sponsors as well as the Friends of the Festival. The support of Key Event Sponsor, Mahone Insurance Group, was instrumental in getting the festival planning process underway. Our many other sponsors have provided us with the resource to bring those plans into reality and present you with this great festival. I would encourage you to give them your support in return.

The Town of Mahone Bay is here for you to enjoy. After a down-wind sail from everywhere, drop the hook or snag a mooring, settle back to relax a bit and then call for the tender to bring you ashore. Pick up a Schedule of Events! After you have seen everything at the Classic Boat Festival, visit our town with its many merchants, shops and services. I know you will find what you need at the Mahone Bay Classic Boat Festival to go home renewed and refreshed.

Kay's Korner

Kay's Korner Look out for the fantastic Festival Merchandise Tent at the Mahone Bay Classic Boat Festival. Kay McNealy, who coordinates this fundraiser, has an eye for what folk like. "I've got something for everyone this year" enthused Kay. "Beach/tote bags, Wind Breaker Vests, Wind Breaker Jackets, Ladies and Men's Fleece Jackets, Doggie Scarves for the discerning pet, Toques (Watch Caps), Golf Caps with Magnetized Ball Marker on Beak, Pink golf Hats, Baby Bibs, Stuffed animals with doggie scarves, Turtles without scarves, and of course, T shirts! Merchandise flew off the shelves last year, so get to the tent early!"

It's Always Furious!

Fast and Furious Race With only 4 hours to build a boat it's no surprise that things get a little "fast & furious" at one of the Mahone Bay Classic Boat Festival's most famous events. Vaughan Renzo who coordinates this very popular annual event says things are hotting up and people are already booking up for the limited spaces.

"Six teams have registered so far... all local folk" exclaimed Vaughan. The Pewter cups for the winners have arrived, we have plenty of volunteers and several experienced vetereans who are searching for themes, costumes and stray partners who would be willing to particiapte. Our own coordinator is very interested in racing too!

Chip's Ships

Chip's Ships Mahone Bay Harbour and the festival grounds will be chock a block full of boats, more so than ever before! Chip Dickison, the static display and boat judging coordinator, feels that festival goes will really be amazed at the number and variety of boats that will be on display, on the wharf and in the harbour. This is because the Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association (NSBA) is partnering with the festival to host the first annual Nova Scotia In-Water Boat Show, which showcases Maritime built boats. This should be the biggest and best festival ever!
